What we keep and who sees it

Crosshire is an invite-only network run by Stepchild, a San Diego rental house. It's solo-built and not for profit. We don't sell data, we don't run ads, and we don't use analytics or tracking. This page explains what the app stores and who in the network can see it.

What we collect

If you ask for access. The homepage form collects your business name, whether you're a company or an individual, a contact name, email, phone, website or social link, how long you've been renting, how rental fits into your income, and how you heard about us. An admin reviews it to decide whether to invite you.

If you're a member. Your profile holds what you give it: name, company or individual, contact name, email, phone, address, website or social link, a short bio, your default discount, and your notification settings. We also keep which logins belong to your company and who invited you.

What you post. We store what you post: gear inventory (category, make, model, notes), requests (dates, items, price, status), offers and the messages under them, SOS posts and comments, and Watchlist entries, comments, attachments, and experience notes.

Sign-in. Sign-in uses one-time email links, so there are no passwords to store. Our authentication provider keeps standard session and security logs, which include IP addresses.

People who aren't members

Some features hold information about people who never signed up:

  • Job handoff clients. A member handing off a job can record their client's name, email, phone, and the job location, so the client can be introduced to the member taking the job. Only the member who posted the job sees the client's contact details. The member who takes the job gets a copy of the introduction email that is sent to the client.
  • Watchlist subjects. Members can file reports about renters or companies involved in theft, non-return, or fraud. A report can include a name, company, a written account, and supporting files. Only signed-in members can see the Watchlist. Nothing on it is public or indexed by search engines.

Watchlist reports are written by members and reflect their own experience, not Crosshire's findings. If you think a report about you is inaccurate, email rentals@wearestepchild.com with the details. We'll review it and correct or remove anything that's wrong.

Who can see what

  • The public sees nothing about members. Only the homepage, sign-in page, and these info pages are open without an account.
  • Every active member can see the member directory: name, type, email, phone, address, and the gear categories you stock. Every active member can also see SOS posts and the Watchlist.
  • Requests are visible to the member who posted them, the members who were notified, and admins. If you make an offer, only the requester sees it; other bidders don't. Once a request is awarded or accepted, both sides can see each other's contact details.
  • Questions on a request can be public or private. Crosshire admins can read private questions and replies for moderation and safety, and each time they open one it's logged.
  • Experience notes on a Watchlist subject are anonymous by default. Other members don't see who wrote them.
  • Admins (currently Stepchild) review access requests, manage members, see a log of notifications sent, and can remove any post.

Services that process your data

We use a small number of providers to run the app. Each one gets only the data its job needs:

  • Lovable Cloud / Supabase — hosting, database, sign-in, and file storage. Watchlist attachments are kept in private storage, and links to them expire after a few minutes.
  • Lovable email — sends notification and sign-in emails.
  • Quo (formerly OpenPhone) — sends text alerts, only if you turn them on. It receives your phone number and the message text.
  • Anthropic (Claude) — sorts gear into categories when you use Smart Upload. It receives only the spreadsheet you upload.
  • Google Fonts — serves the typeface, which means your browser requests it from Google.

If you connect an AI assistant to Crosshire, it signs in as you and can only do what you're allowed to do: see your gear and requests, add gear, and post requests. You can stop using a connected assistant at any time.

Cookies and browser storage

There are no advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser stores your sign-in session, a note that you've seen the "How it works" tour, and, in the admin area, whether the sidebar is open or closed. Clearing your browser storage signs you out.

Notifications

Email is how the network works. You'll get emails about requests sent to you, offers, awards, handoffs, SOS posts, and Watchlist activity. Text alerts are off by default. To get them, add a phone number and switch them on in your profile; you can turn them off there too. By switching texts on you agree to receive text messages from Crosshire at that number. Message and data rates may apply. Every text ends with "Reply STOP to opt out": reply STOP and texts stop, and your text switches in your profile are turned off too. To get texts again, reply START and switch them back on in your profile. For help, email rentals@wearestepchild.com.

How long we keep it

Your data stays as long as you're a member. Requests don't vanish when they expire; they're marked expired, so both sides keep a record. You can delete your own gear, SOS posts, Watchlist entries, attachments, comments, and experience notes whenever you like.

There's no self-serve way to delete your account yet. To close your account, or to get a copy of your data or have it corrected, email rentals@wearestepchild.com from the address on your account. We'll confirm the request within 10 business days. Some records may be kept after you leave, such as requests that another member was part of or that are needed to deal with misuse.

Security, kids, and changes

Access to data is enforced at the database level, not just in the app. If you find a weakness, please see our security policy.

Crosshire is a tool for businesses and working professionals and isn't meant for anyone under 18.

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and tell members by email. Questions go to rentals@wearestepchild.com.
